This monthly challenge was a little tricky for me. One, because of timing and didn't know where I was going to put. Two, because I wasn't really sure what I was going to come up with. And 3, because I had some pretty gnarly events coming up on the 1st and the entire 2-5 weekend. So, I basically just combined everything to make one awesome week/weekend of pain, fun, and adventure. However, you all can join too with tomorrow's crusher of a workout. So tomorrow, I'm labeling it as a Monster Mash. A conglomerate of workouts all put together for about 2 hours of running, body weight exercises, group events, fun events, ocean events, and more running. It's one of those events I put together where everybody is evolved, but few people actually have fun. The person who makes it (in this case myself) usually has the most fun. Unfortunately that’s the case. But for your perspective, if you just make your own, you're bound to have fun, right? So here is a glimpse into what I will be performing. Side note: it will be a little confusing because you don't know the course, but you'll keep up.
A team event where you must carry a 30# ball for the duration of the event
STATION 1: Member a license plate number
STATION 2: run about a mile and knock out 20 burpees
STATION 3: run about a mile and knock out 50 air squats
STATION 4: run about a mile and knock out this sweet trail run section
STATION 5: run about half a mile to the track. Your 30# ball does 4 laps
STATION 6: run a quarter mile to the pull up bars. 50 pull ups
STATION 7: run about a mile to the beach. Team performs flip cup event
STATION 8: Team does overhead toss of ball to the ocean from flip cup event
STATION 9: Individual medley to touch the buoy in the ocean. About 100 yrds out
STATION 10: Fill your bucket of water with small cups of water. Team event
STATION 11: 10x buddy carries on the beach
STATION 12: Run back to starting point. About 2 miles
STATION 13: Read back your license plate number
Yes. This is a team event for me. But if you don't have a team. You can improvise. Either way it will be an ass kicker and a blast of a time. So please have fun with this monthly challenge and please respond in the comments with what you did!! Looking forward to hearing from you!
This morning was awesome. It was a great turn out of people. We had 8 teams of 5 people with so many helpful volunteers to lead the way! I want to say thank you to everyone who came out and helped to make this a successful July Challenge! The total distance ended up being just over 7 miles, some exercises easier than others and a lot of laughs. Ok and maybe some groans. But everyone did amazing and I think overall it was an overwhelming success. Team 6 (my team) had some solid people and worked well as a team. Communication was high and tensions were low. We were effficent, smooth, and most importantly just kept moving. We ending up taking home the gold with a finishing time of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
I think some of the more challenging exercises were sprints with the medicine ball at the track, the buoy touch because I think the buoy floated out a little further than anticipated, and the buddy carries. It was definitely a team effort at the end all the way to finish line, including some extra buddies carries to help some get off their feet for a quick rest! Lastly, everyone remembered their license plate numbers! Amazing! The other groups performed great as well! I saw a lot of camaraderie, hard work, and leadership between all participants. My legs are hurting for sure but well worth it! Awesome challenge and looking forward to the next one!
