Tasks build up. The ones we never want to do that just seem a little too daunting. Well, that’s the goal of this week; to complete as many put-off tasks as you can. Gather a list up of at least three major things you would like to accomplish and attack them. One at a time. An idea could be to start with the smallest one. Complete that, then move on to a slighter bigger one until completed. Or the contrary, and attack the largest task so its only downhill from there. There are a multitude of ways to approach this week, just so long as you can knock out those daunting tasks that have been etched into your to-do list for ages. We all have them.
Personally, I have a few in mind right now that involve my technology back-ups that I could definitely benefit from by completing this week because my information is definitely not safe and could be deleted any minute because of my consistent laziness and lack of effort to backup my crucial information.
Whatever your tasks may be, attack them with a positive attitude and always remember, you have a week to do it. That doesn't mean to wait until the last minute. What I mean by that is you have a deadline. Lets all hit that deadline and be successful.
REFLECTION: Completing your tasks this past week could have been easy or extremely difficult dependent on the task. Everyone has those pesky task which are time dependent but we could have completed a long time ago. This week I choose mediocre tasks which I thought I could complete, but also wouldn't take me an hour. My first task was backing up my computer and phone. To some this might sound easy or minute, but for me, it has always been daunting. I can never figure out a good/fast/easy way to do it. And now with time machine, dropbox, Evernote, icloud, amazon cloud, external hard drives, Flickr, google cloud, etc, it gets confusing. My icloud had been full for the past 4 months, and I just didn't care and didn't know how to delete the items actually in my cloud. If you've ever tried, you might know what I'm talking about. Well, I have a 4 TB external which I plan to use for everything, but couldn't get it to get grab everything from my computer to throw it on there. So my genius idea was to download everything to my google drive, then download my entire google drive to my external. Well that's just stupid. First my google drive filled up because I'm too cheap to buy extra storage and your allotted amount is 15 gb. Then I thought to myself, why am I downloading everything to a back up, just to go to another backup. So I basically wasted about 3 days doing downloads that really didn't help me at all. I cleared out useless items from my icloud and deleted an unnecessary back up, so at least I accomplished something and my icloud is backed up to Timbuktu. However, I think I still failed because only about half is on my external, and I still get the warning of my time machine of not being backed up for over 90 days. I'm going to call this on a work in progress. Regardless, it was a start and some of the things you find daunting at first, aren't really that daunting, maybe just a bit time consuming. My second task of the week I wanted to get off my shoulders was my concoction of flights in the upcoming months. I have a flight home from Europe, that is not really on a set schedule, which right off the start makes everything just a bit harder. So I couldn't book my next flight.. Anyways, lets just talk about what I ended up doing. Foremost, I said fuck it and booked my flight to Austin. I figured that my flight home from Europe shouldn't be too early or too delayed where it could actually have a detrimental effect on my others. So a round trip flight was booked for my best friends wedding. Done. Then a few weeks later, I have to a book a one way trip to California for an award ceremony I'm speaking at. From northern California, I'm booking a one way to San Diego to see my girl and the collage of buddies from San Diego. After, I'm booking another one way back to Virginia to be on time for my job. I kept delaying because of schedule changes and people and times, and whatever, but again, I told myself hopefully it will work itself out after the flights are booked and I'll just go from there. BOOM, done. My last headache to complete was sorting out the everlasting business conclusion which somehow never goes away. I ended a business I had at the end of 2017, and for some reason, accounts did't want to close, Credit Cards are still active and my tax documents haven't come back after 3 months. But with some help from my other managers, we got it all sorted out and its finally done with so I can move on.
I'm not acting like you guys care about my life, I'm sure you don't but just wanted to give you my scenarios so you maybe can base what you did/do off of mine. My took all week, certainly didn't take just one day, and I worked a little harder on Saturday because my procrastination and Netflix addition may have kicked in. But there's a quick synopsis of my accomplishments and failures of the week, I hope you guys liked this one, it may have helped you move on or tackle your next big task. I got this idea from the now famous, "Making your Bed speech" from U.S. Navy Admiral McRaven. Basically, one little task in the morning or today, can lead to a bigger success and bigger task knocked out tomorrow. The momentum of completion is a real thing and hope you can keep that momentum going.
