"Watch your mouth boy!!" This week we will be on our best verbal behavior. If you remember from week 4 we cut the word 'Fuck' from our vocabulary. And if you remember more specifically I didn't do that well and went on for another week to cut it. However, in the past week, I have again adopted the vulgar word and am going for a more aggressive approach. We are going to cut all curse words from our speech. By completely ridding yourself of profanity, I think will do a few things. It will make us focus on what is actually coming out of our mouths to make more clear and concise sentences. It will make us look more professional in conversation and come across more confident. And lastly, to increase our overall vocabulary. If you think why we use these words, can you think of a benefit? I think you can achieve the same results without using profanity. I also believe we are limiting our vocabulary because they are filler words that replace more appropriate words that would fit better in the sentence. So lets open up the brain and think before we speak to better ourselves. I have high hopes for this challenge!

REFLECTION: Again, breaking habits is never easy. But the conscience effort and noticing your habit is a start. And that's what happened this week. I noticed every time (I think ha) I cussed and immediately changed my speech and sentence. I actively tried to think about how I spoke and the words I used. My vocabulary is never where I think it should be, but it’s the movement forward that counts for something.
I am counting this as a successful week because of a few things. I was able to identify my speech patterns and when I used words I shouldn't. I spoke more clearly, more precisely, and slower to gather my thoughts. I had my friends involved who kept me honest and certainly weren't afraid to tell me if I slipped. And lastly, I truly think this week had an impact on my cursing as a whole. I now notice not only my own speech, but others when they curse as well. These filler words could be eliminated from our vocabulary. I liked this challenge for what I was able to achieve, but I didn't like the challenge because it was every second of everyday.
I would like to hear any stories that you feel are worth sharing, and how this week impacted you; good or bad. Please tell us what you thought was helpful, and what you didn't like about it. What words were ok to use and what words were had controversy associated with them. I know my friends and I had some difficultly agreeing on what words were in the clear and which ones weren't!
