Back to some physicality in our lives. We are going to use the entire week to accomplish one goal: to swim a total of 5 miles in a week, Monday through Saturday per usual. That is less than one mile a day. Even for those non-swimmers out there, this is very reasonable. Throw some fins on, use a kickboard, maybe some hand paddles to get the job done. You can choose to swim in a 25yd pool, a 50m pool, a river, an ocean, or a lake. Like always, it doesn't matter how or what options you decide to use to complete the challenge, we just try to get it done and be accomplished. So we will swim approximately 1375yds a day or 5 miles on Saturday, whatever you choose. It will be a shock to the system for those who aren't exceptional swimmers, or people like me who haven't touched a pool in over a year. It will be incredibly easy for those all-American swimmers who knock out 5 grand a day. But either way, we are going to accomplish our goal. If you're limited to your location, hopefully you can pay for a pool this week, use a friends, or possible even relocate yourself. Whatever you have to do this week to get in those miles, lets try and make it happen. If you can not in any way find a body of water, then try and grab some gym pullys. If you average, lets say 14 strokes a lap, times 64 laps, times 5, you'll have your total. 4480 I believe. That doesn't seem to bad if you have six days to complete it eh? This should be a fine one. One that should give the mind a break and just let it wonder while you stare at the good ole' black tiles on the bottom of the pool. Don't think, just stroke. I hope this one puts a new perspective on your daily workout routines or maybe just adds some laps to your preexisting one. But whatever the case, as always, please have fun doing it and tell us all how it went!

REFLECTION: This week was awesome, unplanned, and many curveballs were thrown. I started off the week on Monday swimming exactly a mile in the pool. I was bored, didn't have a workout planned out and was just swimming along. Tuesday, I was in the lane warming up and some others wanted to jump in the lane. It was a girl and a guy and they asked me if I wanted to join them. I checked out the workout and said sure! So I did about over 2000 that day and made some friends in the process. I also was asked if I wanted to help coach the local water polo team during the summer months. I said I'd love to help out on a volunteer basis and meet some new up n' comers. Between us, they needed some help. Wednesday, I was feeling good so I thought I could take the day off, so I went to the gym instead and crushed my legs. Thursday I was back in the pool and had a workout planned and ready to go. I was about 750 yards in, when I was politely asked to get out of the pool because of thunder and lightening. I was in an indoor pool…. This was a first for me. They explained to me that the pumps are outside and they could be hit by lightening. The reasoning behind this I'm sure has to do with millennials and insurance companies, but its beyond me. So that was an unfortunate evening disappointment so I hoped on the rower instead. Friday, I was more lazy than I have been in a long time and watched three movies. I guess we all have those days?? And finally, Saturday! I was stoked for Saturday because I was going to do an ocean swim. I hadn't done one in a while, a long while, and I knew it would be a good time getting salty. I threw on the wetsuit and started to walk out. The current wasn't terrible but I knew I wanted to swim against first so coming back was the easy part. I was around 1000 yds when I checked my watch and decided to turn around. I started in the middle, so I knew that I was going to double what I had already. Boy was it awesome going with the current. I was flying and taking full advantage. I checked my watch around 3500 and put my head down to knock out the last three hundred I had to hit 5 miles for the week. Not going to lie, that current was a blessing. I ran the beach back for about a mile and ended back at the car. It was a solid day and a great day to end the week. Overall, I was happy with my pace, times, workouts, and juggernaut ocean swim.
This week proved I need to get back in the pool and get back in swim shape, not like that will ever happen again, but at least so I can post some decent times in the pool. It showed that no matter how fit you are in the gym, there's always going to be something that kills you when you don't train for it. But that’s the purpose on why we're all doing this, so this week proved its success. How did it go for you non-swimmers? A little rough? I'm assuming about an hour to an hour and a half in the pool if you’re an inefficient swimmer. But if you completed the challenge, that’s one barrier down and you know have a new one to break, so congratulations!
