Sometimes in order to add something to your life, you have to subtract. This week we are going to fast. Now I understand that fasting has some negative feedback but there are many out there who believe that fasting is extremely beneficial for your body and overall health. It might help your body start to function more efficiently, reset your metabolism, or clean any toxins that may have been stuck inside your digestive track. Whatever the case my be, fasting has many positives.
So this week we are going to test our body, both mentally and physically. We are going to perform a fast of whatever duration you feel comfortable. If you have never fasted before, try 24 hours. If you are a veteran, maybe go for 6 days. It is led by your comfort level and judging your body on what works best. Just keep in mind, if you do go for the gold, you have to supplement with something. The point of fasting isn’t to loose energy or watch your body deteriorate. You should keep a positive intake of healthy fats through coffee or tea. Add some MTC oil, some lemon or honey to help your body stay functional and sharp.
I am going to attempt a 48 fast this week. I regularly intermittent fast and I have completed a 24 hour fast before as well. So I’m going to test my limits and move up to a full 2 days. I think it will be difficult, and I believe the proper preparation is necessary, however, this is 100% achieveable. Please do your own research before you attempt your challenge this week and find the full list of benefits to fasting. Comment with any questions or concerns! And of course, Good Luck!!
REFLECTION: FANTASTIC WEEK. I absolutely crushed it and hope you did too! How long did everyone go? What were your challenges? Your struggles? Your hardships? What made it easy for you and how did you attack the fast? I completed a 50hr fast and felt amazing. The morning I finished I felt I could go another day and have the energy and power to attack the day as well. Though I did really enjoy the breakfast burrito as my first meal after finishing. Reflecting back on the days, I think the first 24 hours were definitely that hardest. Your body really isn't used to the lack of food and your stomach starts to talk to you. Your head craves energy and lets you know with an awful headache. But your mind focuses you to overcome those minor details because you still have hours left to go. It makes me think about other challenges you are confronted with and how those first hours or days (whatever the challenge) are usually the hardest. Once you surpass that barrier you have never seen before, there's an open valley to which you can explore. But there's no way to get there without the struggle. Relate that theory to any challenge in your life and see how the best way to attack it is, then move forward and find the valley.
I utilized coffee, tea, MCT oil and that's about it. Water. Lots of water. Next up, a three day in the coming months.
