Focus on one thing. Only one thing for at least 2 hours. It can be whatever you want. Personal, work, hobby, but whatever is, find a time, hide any distractions, and dedicate 2 consecutive hours to that one thing. Once that one thing is completed, move to the next thing. And when that is complete, you move forward. Slowly chipping away towards your future and a better you. Don't let you mind go elsewhere, don't let your colleagues drag you down with water cooler rumors, use this time for you. So this week, day by day, you can accumulate 12 hours to yourself in whatever capacity you choose to make forward progress in your life. I recently read the book The One Thing by Gary W. Keller. It was recommended to me by a good friend of mine. In that book, Keller actually wants four hours a day. For some this could be a daunting time frame. Two hours might seem daunting. But don't let it scare you. Attack the two hours with motivation and confidence. This is for you. Don't let cut corners on you. Plus, it's only a week!
Have fun, choose your one thing wisely, and reflect on it at the end of the week to see if it really did make a difference in your life.
BONUS CHALLENGE: Recap on your morning routine. Either add to it, subtract from it and mold it to what you think you need to get your mind and body right for the day.
REFLECTION: Two hours a day was pretty incredible to have to yourself. It didn't get in the way, rather it made me more time. I was able to accomplish more for myself and that transcended into more productivity at work. It was a great week. Monday I read my current book for all two hours. That wasn't my intension, but it was worth it. Put the phone on silent and didn't have any distractions. (I'm currently reading Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kaufman.) Tuesday I went to the library, put in some headphones and journaled. I wrote down all my thoughts, let the mind breath a bit and felt a lot of weight come off the shoulders. Wednesday I came into work early and knocked out my most important three items I wanted to accomplish that day. I was done before anyone else came into the office, so I read and got in a workout. Thursday I also came in early. I did some research on possible job opportunities, and how I can make myself look advantageous in any job interview. Friday, I did a killer workout, then came home and just cleaned my house. I've been wanting to do that for a while and it felt good to get in a good deep clean, especially since I was leaving for California that afternoon. Saturday morning, I woke up early had my morning tea and journaled. Once I felt satisfied, I opened up my book and finished out my two hours with a long read.
For the bonus challenge this week, changing up your morning routine, I added journaling and some reflection points. So my mornings now look like: wake up, drink a glass of water, do max push ups to get the blood moving, brush my teeth, shave, morning tea, crossword, journal/reflection points. I liked my addition and think I'm going to keep it in there. I have too much going on in my mind and its effecting my sleep schedule and my ability to fall asleep. It's hard to tell with only a week, so I'll keep monitoring to see if my writing will help ease my mind. Great week!
