Social media this days is no longer looked down upon. It has sprouted into a tool behind our early 2000's dreams. The digital age has brought ease of movement, business analytics, colossal networking tools, and much, much more. Once upon a time, social media had a connection to drunken pictures, irreversible posts, and overall 'fun' as it's main purpose. Quickly, this overall generalization changed. Of course, those 'fun times' are still involved heavily, but contrarily, a business model has evolved. With LinkedIn, Tweeter, Facebook Market place, Instagram marketing, Google +, and the countless others, it is a widely used tool in order to conduct good business. Successful business.
This week however, we are eliminating it. Why? Because even though it has these tremendous tools, we're going to test the power. Test our addiction. So a few reasons. One, we never want to become addicts and rely on things in order for us to live and function. Two, test your systems you have in place. Removing yourself from the equation shows how your business can function without you. Will it plummet, or will it flourish? If the former is the case, you'll find out this week and you'll learn how to correct it for next time. Three, we scroll. All of us do. We waste hours a week on social media looking at pictures, posts and irrelevant news articles. See how much time you really spend on there. With this new found time, what can you do to capitalize on it? And four, everyone needs a break. We're on our phones each and every day, day in and day out. And in this new world, that's ok. But it doesn't mean we can't release ourselves everyone once in a while.
So do this for you and eliminate the social media this week. Whatever problems you come up with in your head as of why you can't, fight them. It's possible. You can always plan around obstacles, and you are your most important tool. By getting a new perspective on your life, business, and phone addiction, eliminating social media might actually add to your life somehow. Only you can find out how. Good luck and always remember when you fail.. "Fail forward"- Steve Jobs.
REFLECTION: No social media was pretty awesome. I noticed I was more productive with my day. I didn't look at my phone as much. And most importantly, nothing bad happened. There were no negatives for me. Some might respond with, "Well, I have a business to run." But I say, "good." Let this be a lesson. Find your systems and put them in place so your business runs without you. Don't be a bottleneck in your business. Find ways to succeed without yourself glued to the phone. As the business leader, you have to have a strategic view of the plan, not so much the tactical one. If the latter is the case, then you won't get two perspectives of how the business is being run, which could lead to you not reaching your potential.
Additionally, I believe that breaks and rests are good for us. They are needed. Today, (as you well know) we are constantly going, moving, processing information, learning, communicating, etc, and our brain and body need to catch up. Breaks are necessary to rebuild what is broken, battered and the start of growth. Let them happen, then move forward.
Social media is apart of our lives. It's an awesome tool and a great way to keep in touch. Use is smartly, effectively, and safely, and you'll be good to go! Great week, I hope yours went awesome! Post any cool stories you might have from the week!
