Do a max sled push. This week we're getting back to our physical roots and pushing weight. This week, work up to a max weight sled push for at least 20 yds. If you're not used to doing sled pushing, start your week light. Slowly move up in weight, then on Saturday, do your max push. My goal is about 1000lbs so lets see if I can hit that. That’s a lot of weight. Here are some difficulties with doing this. Your sled is important. Try and find a good sled that's heavy enough to hold the weight and solid handles so you can push effectively. Next comes your surface you are pushing on. It can be extremely difficult if you are pushing the sled on gravel or some kind of asphalt/concert. You're just working against metal friction. So try and find some kind of turf field so it's a little easier to push the weight. Then, try and keep your arms straight and locked out. I didn't do this on my first on, and I now see how much harder it is when your arms are straight. So lock 'em out. Finally, just put one leg in front of the other. That's all that matters. Don't focus on the end, just the little step you have next to get there. Once you complete that step, then step again; focusing only on that next step. Slowly, you will accomplish the push. So get after it everyone! Better yourself and those around you!

REFLECTION: Ok, weighing 170lbs doesn't help much to push even close to 1,000lbs. I failed. I pushed about 550lbs on the sled. It was a dry, cold day in Virginia, on a artificial turf field. The sled itself weighs right around 50 lbs I believe and I had 10 45# plates and two 25# plates. I pushed it a total of 20 yds (not including any warm up laps). I was way off in my original guess on how much I could push around. I have never really done sled pushes before and over estimated my abilities a little too much. But now I know. When you have only so much weight behind you, and your ground isn't slick, pushing 3x body weight can be a little difficult ha. Oh well. I failed. That's awesome! Now I know my limits. Though, you should have seen me struggle to try and push 700. I couldn't even move the damn thing. A little embarrassing after I put some much effort bringing all the weight over to my 'area.' Live and learn I guess. This was a slightly different challenge this week, but I think it was beneficial. A different test of strength than we have done, a way to push yourself internally with no outside influence, and a goal you had to work towards every day to reach your limits. A solid effort everyone! Let me know how your week went and tell any funny stories you might have encountered!!
